![]() Over half way through the book, it is mentioned that the book is set in Johannesburg, South Africa and I honestly did a double take. He is only thinking about himself and not respecting any of her boundaries. Ben cannot cope with it and keeps telling them to stop and they aren’t even together, he acts possessive of a colleague that works FOR HIM, in front of other employees when she does not want them to know they had a one night stand. She continually turns him down and says it’s not appropriate and he just keeps on pursing her!Ībout half way through the book, Sera get’s roped into standing in for a model and the photographer keeps asking her to give the camera “sex eyes” and to bend over a bit more. She relied on that job and he abused his power and put her in so many uncomfortable positions. So when she has a one night stand, he turns out to be her boss and then he suddenly tells her he loves her and MUST have her, of course she feels so pressured. Sera supports her sister as her parents are not in a good place, she relies on her job where she is an intern, and she is also a waitress on the side. He even then hands her an envelope with her knickers in from the night before.īen was my main issue with the book. That just set the tone for his behaviour for the rest of the book. He calls her in and then LOCKS HER IN WITH HIM. He then proceeds to spend the first day calling all the staff into his office to meet him one by one and leaves Sera until last, at 5pm. ![]() They have one night together and suddenly he’s her boss the next day. It undermined the point and while some people may not expect more from romance, it is a valid genre and messages like that do not help.Īs for the love interest, Ben, he felt very possessive and creepy. She wanted to be independent and strong but she was saved by two gay men who were like her best friends and parents, and then by another man. At first, I thought it was because I listened to the audiobook and the narrators voice was not for me, but as it went on I realised it was just her personality. There was not really any time where they didn’t like each other, I expected snippy banter and I didn’t get it.Īs the book is written in first person from Sera’s perspective and her voice was quite childish. Again, this was a really small side plot in the book as the romance really was central.įrom the title, I expected a hate to love romance but at no point did Sera hate Ben. There was also discussion of addiction and how that impacts on family and how children can be forced to grow up too soon. I enjoyed the way Sera supported her sister unflinchingly, she was there for her no matter what, but this was only a small element in the book. I want to start on a positive because honestly this was not an enjoyable read for me, however, there were a few elements I liked. When she gets to work the next day, the guy from the night before, Ben is her new boss, and he wants more than just one night. SYNOPSIS: Sera does something so out of character on a night out and has sex with a guy she just met in the back of his car. I know, if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all… But it’s just my opinion and I do feel that it can be best to know some things before going in. I’m sure many people will enjoy this book but a lot did not sit right with me and I needed to get it off my chest. ![]() ***There will be spoilers included in this review, this is because this is not a particularly positive review.
